We can look for a move (or sequence of moves) that would allow us to move the King from where it is so we can reclaim the “dead” space.  The only place the King of diamonds can be moved to is to the right of the Queen of diamonds.  The 10 of spades is in the way, so let's see if we can move it next to the 9 of spades…
